2011 Social Venture Partners Investees

We are pleased that the following foundations will be co-funders with these investments:
  • Gildea Foundation
  • Santa Barbara Foundation

“The GILDEA Foundation is very pleased to join SVP and the Santa Barbara Foundation  in support of the Community Environmental Council’s work to move us towards  ‘Solar Free By ‘33’,”  said Gildea Executive Director Naomi Schwartz.  “Funding partnerships such as  these have great potential for expanding each of our individual  resources for the betterment of the entire community.”

Art From Scrap tackles the issue of environmental protection by increasing awareness with a key group of change agents – our children.  By teaching children that “everything is connected” they are preparing them to make choices with the understanding of environmental impacts and consequences.  This type of educational programming is a fundamental part of ensuring that future generations of adults will continue the efforts to protect and restore the environment.  Our Partners will work with the board and staff to strengthen Art From Scrap’s capacity in several core areas:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Organizational Development
  • Marketing/Re-Branding
  • Business Development for their ReUse store
  • Board Development

Community Environmental Council principal mission is to promote energy efficiency and greatly increased use of alternatives to fossil-carbon fuels such as petroleum, coal and natural gas.  With the investment from SVPSB, the Community Environmental Council is looking to increase the amount of solar and energy efficiency technologies installed in commercial and business applications in Santa Barbara County and work towards significant public policy change in this arena.  Our Partners will work with the board and staff of Community Environmental Council to:

  • Conduct an in-depth market research study to better understand potential ways that solar incentives could be instituted through Community Environmental Council’s operational business initiatives.
  • If such opportunities are identified, Partners would assist the Community Environmental Council with the development of a full business plan for starting a new business.
